Main Description
LeCroy Center/DCCCD in partnership with McGraw-Hill present a biology for non-science majors online learning experience -- a combination of three distinct pieces: textbook, courseware, lab kit. Designed with flexibility in mind, the textbook, courseware, and lab kit can all be sold separately, in select combinations, as well as a complete online course solution.

Mader's Biology is a comprehensive introductory biology textbook for non-majors or mixed-majors courses that covers biology in a traditional order from the structure and function of the cell to the organization of the biosphere. The book, which centers on the evolution and diversity of organisms, is appropriate for a one- or two-semester course.

It's no wonder that Sylvia Mader's Biology continues to be a text that's appreciated as much by instructors as it is by the students who use it. The ninth edition is the epitome of Mader's expertise: Its concise, precise writing uses an economy of words to present the material as succinctly and clearly as possible, thereby enabling students -- even non-majors -- to understand the concepts without necessarily asking the instructor to explain further.

The online courseware is designed to engage students through animations, video demonstrations, interactive activities, self assessments, and an online glossary, students will experience the scientific method by formulating questions, performing experiements, making observations, recording data, and drawing conclusions. Instructors can customize the course to meet their needs using the SoftChalk® platform. This course also provides suggestions for formal assessment and cooperative learning activities.

eScience Labs has specifically customized a hands-on science kit for this course which covers introductory biology concepts spanning biological processes and genetics. This lab kit includes all of the necessary materials to perform the hands-on experiments outlined in the introductory videos which are embedded within the labs. In addition to this, the eScience Labs kit can be performed by students anywhere, anytime offering flexibility without sacrificing student engagement opportunities. The lab activities illustrate core concepts and are clearly outlined to provide students with an appealing, hands-on experience within their online course. The Lab Kit SKU number, KIT1452, for students is avaialable: Online, at http://www.esciencelabs.com/catalog/custom_kits Email: info@esciencelabs.com Phone: 888.375.5487

LeCroy Center/DCCCD partnered with McGraw-Hill to produce the courseware. Through this agreement, all public community and technical colleges can access the Dallas TeleLearning courseware. The students are still responsible for purchasing the McGraw-Hill textbook and/or eScience Lab Kit the faculty and/or administration choose.
